What is ISO 45001?

The standard follows the High-Level Structure (HLS) used in other ISO management system standards, making it easier for organizations to integrate ISO 45001 with other management systems like ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)

Methodology of ISO 45001

Leadership and Commitment: Obtain commitment from top management to prioritize worker health and safety

Gap Analysis: Assess the organization’s current OH&S practices against the requirements of ISO 45001, Identify gaps and areas that need improvement

Planning and Development: Develop OH&S policies, objectives, and targets aligned with the organization’s goals, Establish processes for hazard identification, risk assessment, and determination of controls

Training and Communication: Provide training to employees and relevant stakeholders on the new OH&S management system. Ensure clear communication of roles, and expectations related to health and safety

Implementation: Implement the planned processes and controls, Assign responsibilities for various tasks and activities

Monitoring and Measurement: Establish procedures for ongoing monitoring and measurement of OH&S performance, Conduct regular inspections, audits, and assessments to identify areas for improvement

Management Review: Conduct periodic management reviews to assess the effectiveness of the OH&S management system, Evaluate performance against objectives, targets, and legal requirements

Continuous Improvement: Analyze the results of monitoring and measurement activities, Identify opportunities for improvement in processes, controls, and performance

Documentation and Records: Develop and maintain necessary documentation, including policies, and records related to OH&S management, Ensure that documentation is accessible, and accurate

Communication and Consultation: Establish effective communication channels for sharing OH&S information, Consult workers and involve them in decision-making processes related to health and safety

External Communication: Communicate relevant OH&S information to external parties, such as contractors, customers, and regulatory authorities
