DevOps

A set of practices and cultural philosophies that aim to automate and integrate the processes of software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops) teams

What is DevOps

DevOps is the combination of philosophies, cultural practices, and tools that increase an organization’s ability to deliver applications and services at high speed: Develop and improve products faster than organizations using infrastructure management and traditional software development processes. This speed enables organizations to better serve their customers and compete more effectively in the marketplace

The methodology of DevOpes

  • Version Control: Utilize version control systems (e.g., Git) to track changes in the codebase and enable collaboration among developers
  • Continuous Integration (CI) Tools: Use CI tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI to automate code integration, building, and testing
  • Continuous Deployment (CD) Tools: Implement CD tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Kubernetes for automating deployment and scaling of applications
  • Monitoring and Logging: Employ tools such as Prometheus, ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), or Splunk for real-time monitoring, logging, and analysis of application and system performance
  • Collaboration and Communication: Utilize collaboration platforms like Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Jira to facilitate communication and information sharing among team members
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Tools: Use tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager to automate infrastructure provisioning and management
  • Security Integration: Integrate security tools and practices into the CI/CD pipelines to ensure security checks (e.g., static code analysis, vulnerability scanning) are part of the automated processes
